I have two passions in life. They consist of my wife
Barbara and writing. I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and met Barbara
when I had a scuba diving accident. When I say she saved my life, I mean
it literally! She was there to nurse me back to health and keep me from
trying to destroy myself. (Grin!) Although I haven’t made things easy
for her she has managed to keep me in check!

I
was born on October 20, 1947 in Chicago. In April 1968 I joined the
Chicago Police Department. As a police officer my job was patrolling the
downtown area. It was a turbulent time. Martin Luther King had just been
assassinated and riots were destroying the city. The United States was
heavily involved in the Vietnam War. On the home front we had even more
chaos with the antiwar movement. I saw more rioting during the notorious
1968 democratic convention in Chicago, in August.
